„Green“ – a word that makes us think of nature

2012-09-07 | „Green“ – a word that makes us think of nature and green forests and now technology and energy savings, too.

    Leena Ruohola

    Leena Ruohola

‘Every Day is a GreenDay’ shows us many ways to protect natural resources. In the office, we now have a new, efficient ventilation system and the new block heaters have a timer to ensure that we can start our car engines for our daily travel as energyefficiently as possible. From words to actions – our awareness week has moved us to ‘think green’ in everyday life.

Planting trees in the city of Buenos Aires

2012-08-25 | “Thanks to ‘Every Day is a GreenDay’, we were able to show our customers and the public how important environmental protection is.

For example, we held a presentation at a school in order to showcase the campaign and the green philosophy, and we planted trees in the city centre of Buenos Aires. We balance out our CO2 emissions this way.

Jesica Roncoli (Assistant to the Managing Directors, ebm-papst Argentina S.A.)

    Jesica Roncoli

Aside from that, we have been trying to save or recycle as much paper as possible since the campaign started. Overall, you could say we learned how you can do small things to make the world better and greener.”

We used alternative means of transport

2012-08-20 | In Norway, all employees tried out leaving their cars at home.

    Ståle Strøm

    Ståle Strøm

We used alternative means of transport such as buses or the train. Anyone who was able got on a bicycle, roller skis, in-line skates or used their own two legs – if someone wanted they could have even swam. We also didn’t use any copiers or printers during ‘Every Day is a GreenDay’. Only the Chief Purchasing Officer was allowed to print out order confirmations for our customers.

    Vegetable garden in South Africa

2012-08-13 | “‘Don’t be mean, act green’ is a motto I like to use to point out the importance of the green philosophy ever since ‘Every Day is a GreenDay’”. The campaign is supposed to be an eye-opener for everyone.

    Conrad Nel

    Conrad Nel

Our subsidiary has planted its own working vegetable garden. We all benefit from it; the promotion even inspired some people to plant such a garden at home, too. I personally gave my family a little nudge on matters of preventing waste and separating it for recycling. So be green, not mean!”

    Saving electricity

2012-07-16 | When thinking about ‘Every Day is a Green Day’ we asked ourselves what we as a small sales branch can contribute to environmental protection.

    Mark Wilson

    Mark Wilson

Naturally we sell energy-efficient products which customers welcome and appreciate. Therefore, with intelligent business, we also help our customers to do something for the environment. However, the GreenTech philosophy can also be used in our everyday work. Before we use electricity somewhere in the office, we ask ourselves if it is really necessary?

Think more about the items we use every day

2012-07-10 | “On the occasion of the campaign, we began to think more about the items we use every day, which simply used to find their way into the trash. For example, we recently began donating bottle caps to charitable organisations, which use the income from recycling for charitable purposes.

    Michiko Tsukamoto

    Michiko Tsukamoto

Actions such as that produced a general change in our thinking. Since then it has also passed on to our friends and customers. In this way, ‘Everyday is a GreenDay’ is effective even long after the awareness week.”

    Enthusiasm in Poland

2012-07-01 | “All of our employees prepared our ‘Every Day is a GreenDay’ with a good deal of enthusiasm. In the process, we learned how effective even small behavioural changes can be in reducing the electricity bill or saving petrol with the company car. How important such a voluntary commitment to environmental protection is for ebm-papst is something I noticed as soon as I started here.

    A car-free zone

2012-06-28 | “During ‘Every Day is a GreenDay’, our courtyard became a car-free zone. In our cafeteria we had an information stand which was designed and staffed by our trainees. And a small ‘farmers market’ had fruit and vegetables from local fields. But environmental awareness also slipped into the foreground more noticeably in my own home.

The families of employees come to visit

2012-06-19 | “At ebm-papst Ibérica we are fully committed to the GreenTech philosophy. During ‘Every Day is a GreenDay’, therefore, we converted to energy-saving LED lamps and installed motion sensors in our hallways. That way we save 80 percent of our electricity.

    Alberto Salio

    Alberto Salio

But we also carried the GreenTech philosophy outside with the campaign. We held a competition and selected the greenest customer. The winner was Inoxpan, a manufacturer of kitchen appliances that relies on our EC technology. Such innovative companies, in my opinion, are on the right path to surviving the difficult economic situation in our country.”

GreenTech means more than building only energy-efficient products

2012-06-12 | “When I started here just over a year ago, I immediately noticed how important sustainability is at ebm-papst USA. Right at that time solar cells were being installed on our roof and new, efficient production equipment was being commissioned. Since then I am very proud of how our processes continuously improve with the GreenTech philosophy.

    Meghan Finley

    Meghan Finley

The GreenDay campaign is a great way for us to familiarise all of our employees with these thoughts as well. For GreenTech means more than just building energy-efficient products. Just as important as the processes involving production and packing is our everyday handling of resources. Our campaigns are intended to show how everyone can set a good example. Hopefully our employees internalise what they have learned from this week and apply it in their everyday life – whether at the workplace or at home.”

    Improved ventilation system in Denmark

2012-06-06 | “Everyone who works in the field of energy-related renovations, as I do with our customers in Denmark, focusses daily on using green technology. GreenWeek gave us the impetus to look at our own air-conditioning system. The result: Now we use GreenTech EC technology there.

    Niels Knokgaard

    Niels Knokgaard

By doing so, we simultaneously save electricity and money and have a better room climate. Moreover, I am glad to be able to show customers every day the various ways they can save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. Solutions that will work in the long-term

2012-05-28 | “Here in the Czech Republic, environmental awareness is slow to catch on. ‘Green’ behaviour – that is, recycling or saving energy – still is not a matter of course for us. But I am convinced that all of us will become more keenly aware of it with ‘Every day is a GreenDay’. Therefore it is also very important for us to find solutions that will work in the long-term, instead of just being successful during the GreenWeek. Previously we had hardly ever thought about the GreenTech logo, but after this week that changed dramatically.

    Martin Stejskal

    Martin Stejskal

Now we know exactly what this philosophy means and how we can win customers over to our approach. We also share these experiences with our families and friends, however, so we can also develop ideas for behaving ‘green’ at home. It’s high time, so that our children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy nature that is still unspoiled.”

We recycle and save vast amounts of paper

2012-05-23 | We at Helcoma, the ebm-papst agent in Greece, want to make every day a GreenDay. We consistently recycle and save vast amounts of paper by printing only the really important e-mails and using both sides of the paper.

    John Mylonas

    John Mylonas

Our most important objective is and remains, however, to sell GreenTech EC technology, for the more ebm-papst fans there are in use, the more energy will be saved and emissions reduced. Aside from that we should reflect on our long tradition of considerately handling the environment – after all, the word ‘ecology’ comes from Greek.
